The ‘SSE Hydro’ in Glasgow is not only a stunning venue made of aluminium – it has already become the third busiest music arena in the world in terms of ticket sales.
More than a million visitors made it to concerts and events in 2015, which put SSE Hydro even ahead of the famous Madison Square Garden in New York, US.
Designed by world-renowned architects Foster + Partners, Scotland’s national arena holds 12,000 fully seated spectators and is the largest entertainment venue in Scotland.
Inspired by ancient Greek and Roman amphitheaters on the inside, it is thoroughly modern covered with sleek aluminium on the outside.
The SSE Hydro is the only one of its scale in the UK built specifically for concerts, conferences and events.
The elliptical shape of the amphitheater also offers ideal viewing for spectators, even at a distance from the stage. The building sports a unique façade that allows natural light to illuminate the foyers during the day and allows the arena to glow at night.
The SSE Hydro is host to national and international music mega stars as well as global entertainment and sporting events.
The SSE Hydro takes advantage of all the design freedom aluminium sheet offers to create a viable space for a big community – even if just for one night.
Even though ‘SSE Hydro’ is named after its main sponsor, the Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) and its Scottish subsidiary ‘Scottish Hydro’, we – as a Norwegian aluminium company with global reach – can’t help but love to have contributed in making people happy together, as people line up by the million every year to seek wonderful life-time experiences in “The Hydro”.
